IMPACT (Worship & the Arts)
We believe that the arts are a powerful, meaningful, and necessary expression of life in the Kingdom of God. We are artists because we are made in the image of God, who is the Master Artist. And we seek to build not just a community of Christ-followers, but a community of artists committed to live out their faith and express it in our art. We believe that Christ not only invites us, but calls us to usher people into the Kingdom of God through the arts both inside and outside the walls of Oak Hills Church.
IMPACT’s purpose is twofold: We exist to worship God and to lead others in worship; and we also exist as a community of artists, using our gifts to express our faith, encourage the church, and glorify God. IMPACT includes music (worship teams, choir, outreach band, etc.), drama, visual arts, dance, creative writing, the technical arts (including multimedia, sound, lighting, and videography), and other artistic expressions.
If you are interested in finding out more information about IMPACT or how you can serve in this area of the church, please contact our Pastor of Creative Arts, Manuel Luz, at manuel.luz@oakhills.org. You can also check out our IMPACT blog here. We are always looking for talented and passionate people in the following areas:
Worship Teams (instrumental musicians and vocalists)
Adult Choir (no-audition choir featured monthly at our services)
Tech Team (sound, lighting, multimedia, and video)
Art & Soul Gallery (visual artists of all kinds)
Drama Opportunities (actors, stage techs, etc. for special events)
Communications (writers, photographers, web slingers, etc.)
Other Specialty Artists (dancers, filmmakers, poets, and anyone else!)
Worship
Worship is our foundational calling as a ministry, and as such we help to lead our church in worship during all of our services (weekend services as well as other services on the church calendar). Worship is much more than singing on a Sunday morning. Worship is an invitation for us to step into and participate in the perfect and eternal community of Father, Son and Spirit. When we worship, we join in the celebration of God’s story that is both past, present and still to be revealed. At Oak Hills, we take our Levitical calling seriously.
Mosaic
“MOSAIC: An Evening with the Arts” is a annual event, which presents an evening of the best of our drama, music, dance, visual arts, and other arts expressed by our own people (as well as desserts!). It’s also the perfect place to invite a friend and experience the redemptive power of the arts.
Art & Soul Gallery
As a regular part of our artistic expression, our visual arts ministry, Art and Soul, has a running art gallery in the lobby of our church auditorium. Featuring photography, painting, crafts, and other visual arts, the gallery helps us spiritually connect with God through the arts. The gallery runs year long with seasonal themes.
July Arts Month
The month of July is our designated Arts Month, where we emphasize the importance of the Arts in the life of our church. Anchored by our annual Arts Camp, July will also include an annual Intersections: Arts and Faith Conference, a River Baptism Concert at Negro Bar, special art gallery, and live music between our services.
Arts Camp
Each year, IMPACT teams up with Oak Hills’ Children’s Ministries to create a children’s summer arts camp. For one week in July, children are introduced to different art forms while learning about the love of Jesus Christ in a day camp format. See Children’s Ministries for more details.
Intersections: Faith and the Arts Conference
Intersections is an annual one-day conference that furthers the dialogue between faith and the arts. This dialogue includes both connecting artists of all disciplines together, as well as connecting deeper with the theological and spiritual aspects of the arts. This conference happens in the spring each year, so stay tuned for more information.
Other Events
IMPACT is vital in many other events throughout the church, including Cappuccino Christmas, Summer Concerts, Retreats (Men’s, Women’s, Leadership, etc.) and other special events. We are also strong supporters of Imprint Theatre Company, a non-profit theater company in Folsom, and have hosted the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, the Folsom Symphony, the El Dorado Musical Theater, and others.
